FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & location will produce a distinct flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display superior flavour & are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica as it is not as bitter & exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has more bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a significant part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee beans.
