FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation and area will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours and may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can have superior flavour & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica as it is less bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pests.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other aspects that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various locations can often be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
