FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can exhibit superior taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people prefer to have Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also influences a significant part in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change every aspect of the roast process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
