FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and area will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people prefer to consume Arabica because it is not as bitter & has a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant part in the flavour characteristics of the coffee beans. Combining different varieties and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roast proceedure to craft different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional conditions that are regulated during the roast.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans usually retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different locations are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
