FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each nation & location will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, most people prefer to drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is because of the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different types & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other aspects that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans typcially keep more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the different regions are be more distinguishable in light roasted beans. This is important to consider when purchasing beans.
