FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & location will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are generally sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are typically known as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, most people would rather consume Arabica as it is not as bitter & shows a nicer taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also influences a major part in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust all aspects of the roasting process to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional aspects that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans typcially retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the coffee from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is key to think about when purchasing coffee.
