FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each country and location will make a distinct taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can display nicerbetter taste and are very renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to consume Arabica as it is not as bitter and has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the coffee. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting process to develop different flavours in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of roasts. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of other factors that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked tastes of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
