FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country and area will result in a different taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species which is usually know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and can exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is less bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pests.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & areas. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roast process to develop different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other conditions that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing beans.
