FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation and area will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are typically stronger, harsher and can show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, usually people would rather have Arabica because it is not as bitter & shows a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive than Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to grow on the farm, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust every aspect of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee beans.
