FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation and area will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry flavours & can show hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher and may display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the taste of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can display a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and exhibits a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to cultivate.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is usually grown at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a significant role in the flavour profile of the beans. Blending different types & roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of other aspects that are regulated during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
