FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each nation & area will make a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also show fruit or berry flavours & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher and may have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can exhibit superior taste & are very popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter and has a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often farmed at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has more bean yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is due to the range of climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also influences a significant role in the taste characteristics of the coffee. Combining different varieties and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of additional conditions that are controlled during the roast.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more pronounced in lighter roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing beans.
