FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation & region will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery overtones.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater level of caffeine, many people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter and exhibits a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has greater fruit yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roasting proceedure also influences a major role in the taste characteristics of the coffee beans. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to develop different tastes in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the different regions can often be more distinct in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to think about when buying beans.
