FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many nations, each country & region will result in a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may exhibit a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica and Robusta can show nicerbetter taste & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather drink Arabica as it is not as bitter & has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans as it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often grown at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ and tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major part in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types and roasting is an art and science. Professional roasters meticulously control and change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to make different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roast coffee typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the beans from the various regions are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when purchasing coffee.
