FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & area will produce a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica species which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may exhibit grainy or rubbery tastes.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can have a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can show superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine compared to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to have Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a superior taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to farm.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee beans. Mixing different types and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency between batches of coffee. Flavour changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional things that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will show a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans will retain more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various locations are be more pronounced in lighter roasted coffee. This is important to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
