FAQs

Arabica beans are cultured in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation & region will make a different taste from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica plant that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts and may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which tend to be stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are typcially more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types can show a less fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can show superior taste & are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain about double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & shows a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee because it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the farm, has a higher fruit yield & is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and processing.

The roasting process also plays a significant role in the flavour profile of the beans. Combining different types and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Flavour changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of other things that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee typcially retain more tastes than darker roasts. This means that the distinct tastes of the coffee from the different regions are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to think about when purchasing beans.
