FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each nation and area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee tree due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica tree that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are usually sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may display hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are tasted as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties can have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they show a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people would rather have Arabica as it is not as bitter & has a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & withstands a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield & is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is due to the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roast process also plays a significant role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different varieties and roasting is both an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & change every aspect of the roasting proceedure to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roast coffee beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the marked tastes of the beans from the different areas can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted beans. This is paramount to consider when purchasing coffee beans.
