FAQs

Arabica beans are grown in many nations around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many countries, each nation and area will produce a different flavour from what is essentially the same coffee species due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & may exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher & can show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as superior  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans have caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, many people would rather drink Arabica as it is less bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is grown in cooler sub-tropical climates & at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is often farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to tend to on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} & locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant role in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust every aspect of the roast process to craft different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency between batches of roasts. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a number of other factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans will retain more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the coffee from the various areas are be more distinguishable in light roasted coffee. This is important to consider when buying coffee.
