FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many countries, each country & location will make a distinct flavour from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry flavours & may have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and may show grainy or rubbery tastes.

Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can show nicerbetter taste and are extremely popular.

Arabica beans have caffeine but generally less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and has a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans as it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name indicates ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the farm, has more fruit yield and is more resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting process also plays a major role in the taste characteristics of the beans. Mixing different types and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters meticulously control & adjust every aspect of the roasting proceedure to develop different flavours in their beans and maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee and a range of additional aspects that are regulated during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roasted coffee beans typcially keep more flavours than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the beans from the different regions are be more pronounced in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when buying coffee.
