FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each nation and region will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee plant due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The taste of Arabica beans changes depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also display fruit or berry tasts & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to have more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can have grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the flavour of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are exhibited as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may have a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly known as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display nicerbetter flavour and are extremely renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, most people would rather drink Arabica because it is not as bitter and displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta coffee because it is harder to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ and withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has greater fruit yield & is better resistant to insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.

The roast process also plays a major part in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & adjust every aspect of the roast process to make different flavours in their coffee and ensure consistency across batches of coffee. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional factors that are controlled during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually keep more tastes than dark roasts. This means that the marked flavours of the beans from the various areas are be more pronounced in light roasted beans. This is key to consider when buying coffee beans.
