FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many nations around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is grown in many nations, each country & location will produce a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee tree due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean supply.

The flavour of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are usually sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also show fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that tend to be stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Manny people find the taste of Arabica to be better to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may show a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they display a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but commonly less caffeine than Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans contain almost double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher level of caffeine, commonly people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter & displays a nicer flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is farmed in cooler sub-tropical climates and at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is typically farmed at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of climatic conditions. Robusta is simplier to tend to on the plantation, has greater bean yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there are a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are grown in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast proceedure also plays a significant part in the flavour profile of the coffee beans. Blending different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Specialist roasters meticulously control and adjust all aspects of the roast proceedure to develop different tastes in their coffee & maintain consistency between batches of beans. Taste differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a number of additional aspects that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder taste than lighter roasted beans. Light roast beans usually retain more tastes than darker roasts. This can mean that the distinct tastes of the beans from the different regions are be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is key to consider when buying coffee.
