FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the world. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is produced in many nations, each country and region will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica species that are commonly know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the area, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate and sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts and can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to show more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & may show grainy or rubbery flavours.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be superior to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may have a less fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are commonly considered as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they exhibit a more refined sweeter & less bitter taste. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very popular.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but usually less caffeine as opposed to Robusta coffee.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, commonly people would rather consume Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a better taste.

Arabica coffee is most costly compared to Robusta beans because it is more difficult to grow.

Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is often grown at sea level & in warmer climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a broader range of climatic conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has a higher fruit yield & is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences comparing Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are cultured in different {countriesnations} & regions. This is due to the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also plays a major part in the flavour profile of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is an art and science. Specialist roasters carefully control and adjust all aspects of the roast process to craft different flavours in their beans & ensure consistency across batches of beans. Taste changes depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional factors that are regulated during the process.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder taste than lightly roasted beans. Light roast beans will keep more flavours than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the various regions can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when purchasing coffee.
