FAQs

Arabica beans are farmed in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is cultured in many countries, each country and location will produce a distinct taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.

Arabica coffee beans are from the Coffea arabica shrub that are typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up approximatly 60% of the global coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the location, they are typically sweet with notes of chocolate & sugar. They can also have fruit or berry tasts & can have hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to exhibit more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans that are stronger, harsher & can display grainy or rubbery tastes.

Most people find the taste of Arabica to be tastier to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity types may display a reduced fruity flavour.

Arabica coffee beans are usually known as better  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter taste. However, some coffee blends than include both Arabica & Robusta can display superior flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but generally less caffeine compared to Robusta coffee beans.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about twice as much caffeine, at 2.2percent.

Despite the greater amount of caffeine, typically people prefer to drink Arabica as it is less bitter and exhibits a superior flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta coffee as it is harder to farm.

Arabica is grown in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is typically cultivated at sea level and in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has a higher bean yield and is better resistant to pest insects.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and locations. This is because of the different climates, soils and other characteristics associated with their culturing and preparation.

The roasting proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control and change all aspects of the roasting process to make different flavours in their coffee & maintain consistency across batches of roasts. Taste differs based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are controlled during the proceedure.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lightly roasted beans. Light roasted coffee beans usually keep more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinguishable tastes of the coffee from the different areas can often be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is important to think about when buying coffee.
