FAQs
Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the world. Brazil is the biggest producer of Arabica. Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation & region will result in a different taste from what is essentially the same coffee bush due to their different climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other aspects.
Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica tree which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.
The flavour of Arabica beans changes depending on the region, they are typically sweet with notes of coco and sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry tasts and can display hints of cereal or nuts.
Arabica tends to display more acidity and less bitterness than Robusta beans which are stronger, harsher & can exhibit grainy or rubbery overtones.
Usually people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.
When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.
Yes, Arabica beans are usually more acidic and less bitter than Robusta beans. The acid are shown as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a less fruity taste.
Arabica coffee beans are typically considered as nicer tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter & less bitter flavour. However, some blended coffee than include both Arabica & Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour & are extremely renowned.

Raw Arabica beans contain ~ 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have almost twice as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Arabica coffee is more expensive compared to Robusta beans because it is harder to farm.
Arabica is cultivated in colder sub-tropical climates and at a higher altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta however is commonly cultivated at sea level and in warmer climates.
Robusta is as its name suggests ‘robust’ & withstands a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the farm, has greater fruit yield & is more resistant to pest insects.
No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and areas. This is because of the different climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their culturing and processing.
The roast proceedure also plays a major role in the flavour characteristics of the beans. Combining different varieties & roasting is both an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change every aspect of the roasting process to develop different tastes in their coffee & ensure consistency between batches of beans. Flavour differs depending on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional conditions that are controlled during the roast.
Darker roasts will have a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted coffee. Light roast coffee will retain more flavours than dark roasts. This means that the distinct flavours of the coffee from the different locations can often be more distinguishable in lighter roasted coffee. This is paramount to consider when buying coffee.
