FAQs

Arabica beans are produced in many countries around the globe. Brazil is the largest producer of Arabica.  Even though Arabica is farmed in many nations, each nation and area will make a different flavour from what is basically the same coffee bush due to their distinct climates, soils, altitudes, processing methods among other things.

Arabica coffee beans are beans from the Coffea arabica shrub which is typically know as “mountain coffee” or “arabica coffee”. Arabica coffee makes up about 60% of the world’s coffee bean production.

The taste of Arabica beans varies depending on the area, they are generally sweet with notes of coco & sugar. They can also exhibit fruit or berry flavours & can exhibit hints of cereal or nuts.

Arabica tends to display more acidity & less bitterness than Robusta beans that are typically stronger, harsher and can display grainy or rubbery overtones.

Typically people find the flavour of Arabica to be nicer to that of Robusta.

When unroasted, Arabica beans smell like blueberries. The aroma of the roasted beans has been described as perfume like with hints of fruit and sugar. These aromas continue after you brew coffee.

Yes, Arabica beans tend to be more acidic & less bitter than Robusta beans.  The acid come through as fruity flavours. Low acidity varieties may exhibit a reduced fruity taste.

Arabica coffee beans are typically thought as nicer  tasting than Robusta beans as they have a more refined sweeter and less bitter flavour. However, some blends than include both Arabica and Robusta can have nicerbetter flavour and are very renowned.

Arabica beans contain caffeine but typcially less caffeine as opposed to Robusta beans.

Raw Arabica beans have about 1.2{%percent} caffeine. Raw Robusta beans have about double as much caffeine, at 2.2%.

Despite the higher amount of caffeine, usually people prefer to drink Arabica because it is less bitter and displays a better flavour.

Arabica coffee is most costly than Robusta beans as it is more difficult to cultivate.

Arabica is farmed in colder sub-tropical climates & at a greater altitudes (600-2000m). Robusta on the other hand is commonly cultivated at sea level & in hotter climates.

Robusta is as its name would suggest ‘robust’ & tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions. Robusta is easier to grow on the plantation, has more fruit yield and is better resistant to bugs.

No, there is a lot of differences between Arabica coffeecoffee beans that are farmed in different {countriesnations} and regions. This is due to the range of climates, soils & other characteristics associated with their farming and preparation.

The roast process also influences a major role in the taste profile of the coffee. Combining different types and roasting is an art & science. Professional roasters carefully control & change all aspects of the roasting process to craft different tastes in their beans & maintain consistency across batches of coffee. Taste changes based on if it is a light roast, medium roast or dark roast coffee & a range of additional things that are controlled during the roasting.

Darker roasts will exhibit a much richer, bolder flavour than lighter roasted beans. Light roasted beans usually retain more tastes than dark roasts. This can mean that the distinguishable flavours of the coffee from the various regions are be more distinct in light roasted coffee. This is paramount to think about when purchasing coffee.
